Acupuncture
According to the theory of traditional acupuncture, our health depends on the body’s energy (known as Qi) moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of meridians (channels) inside our body. Any illness, therefore, (either physical, mental or of the spirit) is associated with blockage or imbalance in the person’s Qi. The aim of acupuncture is to regulate and unblock any stagnation of Qi to restore balance and good health.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles into points along the meridians. The needles are sterile single use needles and vary in length, depending on where they are to be used. For example when used in the wrist they will just pierce the skin, whereas they may be inserted deeper in fleshier parts of the body. The insertion of needles is not painful. Some people might feel a slight tingling sensation or an energy transfer along the meridian to another part of the body. Afterwards many people are very relaxed, perhaps even a little tired and have a feeling of well being.
If you have a phobia about needles, we can still help you by treating you with Acupressure or Traditional Chinese Therapeutic Massage, when the fingers are used instead of acupuncture needles to stimulate the acupoints. This therapy is also used successfully to treat young children.
